WrensReads Review:
I did not read as many books as I wanted to this month; but at the same time, I’m trying to read less and focus on other things more? It just didn’t work out that way because reading is kind the reason I smile. I have been really sick this month, so I haven’t even gotten around to a lot of the reviews yet (but I will I promise!). But the ones I have finished so far are below (16 total when all the reviews are there):
- When Dimple Met Rishi
- Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy, #02: The Lost Herondale
- Down in the Belly of the Whale
- Outlander #01: Outlander
- The Conqueror’s Saga #01: And I Darken
- Girls & Sex: Navigating the Complicated New Landscape
- A Series of Unfortunate Events #01: The Bad Beginning
- Sky in the Deep
- DC Icons #02: Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu
- Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy, #01: Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy
- Three Dark Crowns #.2: The Young Queens
- Everless #01: Everless
- The Folk of the Air #01: The Cruel Prince
Overall, I was a little underwhelmed with my reads in January.
My best read was Sky in the Deep which I recommend everybody pre-order this very moment. It’s Vikings, hate-to-love, brother-and-sister relationships and all together brutally amazing. I read it in about two days and that’s only because of my 09 to 05.
My biggest let down was The Cruel Prince. Everyone hyped it up so much and cried that it was the best book of 2018 even though it was January, and it wasn’t that strong of a story or main character for me. I’m not sure if it is because of the hype or what. That’s the danger with hyped books: sometimes it is so hyped and you end up having such high hopes that it is nearly impossible for a book to reach it.
This month, I have started working on a bookstagram. I have always loved to see the creativity with my book friends and what they think of certain books, but I find myself reading so quickly and needing to review a book more that I didn’t have time to keep up with bookstagram. This year I have taken the time to slow down on the reading and take time to actually appreciate the book community and to talk books with people who actually understand the feels of them!
January’s Nonfiction: Girls and Sex
For February, we have a lot of releases coming out. My most anticipated releases are: Immortal Reign, with the lovely Melanie next week, Tempests and Slaughter, Daughter of a Siren Queen, The Traitor’s Game, Ink, Iron, and Glass, and The Queen’s Rising. I’m also buddy reading with Melanie A Wrinkle in Time in preparation for the movie and just because Melanie and I are too adorable. But really I am just really excited for Immortal Reign. I will be devouring that book in one day and I may or may not have taken the day off work.
I’m not going to make this too long, since I am still recovering from that wicked bug that attacked me this month. I am really excited for February though and all the books that it holds!
