This is a world divided by blood - red or silver. The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change. That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power. Fearful of Mare's potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime. But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance - Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart . . .
WrensReads Review:
Wow. *Applauding alone in my room*. Just, wow.
To start off, this book frightened me. I read it and froze because it sounded a lot like a book I was currently writing (a writers worse dreams, right?).
It wasn’t anything like what I am writing.
This series is going to change lives.
Mare Barrow’s is a laugh. She is the most sarcastic heroine that you will ever read.
I have always been a fan of superpowers. I love the XMen series, I love anything that has a magical presents. The Books of Bayern are some of my favorite books, and they have things like this (you should pick those up). So I was so incredibly happy to find another book with the a different twist on superpowers.
It has the dystopian vibe to it as well: Silver’s Rule the Reds
Silvers have powers. Reds don’t.
So you get your tortured people and the people with their heads up their rumps.
I hope they get a kick in the pants.
The love triangle isn’t as “torturous” as many love triangles in world’s favorite books, but that is something I actually really liked. It isn’t the focus of the book. Fun fact: this triangle has four sides. So I guess that’s a love square… or love rectangle. Aren’t shapes fun?
Guy 01
Guy 02
Guy 03
So you immediately like Guy 01. He’s sweet and he seems to care a lot about Mare.
You don’t like Guy 02 right away, but you learn to actually like him a lot because he grows to care for not only Mare, but the things that she wants and stands for.
Guy 03…. Well, honestly I am not sure he is the third guy, but I get a weird more than friends vibe off of him that’s for sure. Who doesn’t love a friend who wants more than friendship that it may or may not be reciprocated?
Then things happen
People die
People change
People deceive
Don’t click on this if you haven’t read the book I BEG YOU.
I have been looking for a good, new series to get involved with and I finally found one to obsess over. It hasn’t hit the fan yet (meaning it isn’t what every single person is talking about like every John Green book right now) so I can silently obsess over it in peace.
That being said, it will get big. It’s that good folks. Read it now or wait till every classroom is filled with people spoiling it for you.
